A new initiative to collect community feedback
The Santa Clara Police Department is launching a new project with My90, a San Carlos-based social enterprise, to collect feedback from community members about local policing issues, neighborhood safety, and more. This partnership was made possible by the generous support of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation and the San Francisco 49ers. My90 will collect feedback from the Santa Clara community in three ways:
- A citywide survey in September, 2017. Residents will have the opportunity to share their opinions of the police, including SCPD’s future priorities. This free, anonymous survey will be available to all Santa Clara residents by texting “SCPD” to 72803.
- A community panel of 20 local residents from July, 2017 to March ,2018. The panel will provide additional insight on these issues as part of an ongoing dialogue. Participants will include members from a diverse group of leaders in the Santa Clara community.
- Specialized focus groups from January to March, 2018. These focus groups will be convened based on data collected during the citywide survey to discuss findings and generate recommendations for SCPD moving forward.
The Santa Clara Police Department is the second department in the Bay Area to partner with My90. My90 recently completed a yearlong partnership with the San Jose Police Department and has previously partnered with the Independent Police Auditor of San Jose. SCPD will be the first police department to use My90’s SMS platform to conduct a citywide survey.
My90’s mission is to help the public and the police talk. The company is an independent service provider for police departments and other local government agencies specializing in communication and data analysis. My90 collects community feedback using anonymous text messages, analyzes this feedback, visualizes it, and shares results. The company works closely with police departments, community members, and city leaders to help improve trust, transparency, and safety.
